The Love of Christ Compels…

Wow, deep breath! Today I am preparing to step on a plane, leave America for a year and have a wild adventure for Christ. This is one adventure that I could never have dreamed up. I am in awe of the fact that God chose me to go to a foreign country for a year. Me? Melissa Ann Crutchfield? The girl who doesn’t like one ounce of change in her life? And now is hopping on a plane knowing that drastic change will be happening every step of the way? What could possibly be the motive?

One thing is for certain: This motive could not come from within herself. There is a different motive. An unseen motive. A motive that comes from someONE else. A love that is driven by the One who holds the universe in His hands. A love for every person in every nation that speaks any language. A love that placed a prized possession on a cross. A love that wrecks lives for the better and makes all things new. That my friends is the only reason why this girl is leaving those she loves and the comforts surrounding her. She could not do this one her on accord. If she tried, she would fail. But she knows she is not going alone. She is going with the One who saved her life. And the only reason why she is going, is because the Love of Christ compels her.

To live compelled by the LOVE of Christ instead of the comforts of the world, and to know that when we lay it down after this life that we lived the ADVENTURE with Him is worth EVERYTHING we have.”

– Beth Moore

Paul, the apostle wrote something similar:

“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all.” 2 Corinthians 5:14

So please never look at me as someone who is braver then others or doing “greater” things for God. The only reason I am driven to go is because of Him. That’s it. Period. I could never even begin to muster up the strength to love complete strangers, embrace change, and dive into a new culture like I am about to. Never. It has to be the Love of Christ that compels me.
